“Release”

After fifteen months of lockdowns, anxiety, and isolation, early summer of 2021 brought loosened regulations and catharsis for much of the United States.
This series was made on a cross-country motorcycle trip during that brief period when social interaction seemed free of stigma and death.

Themes explored include freedom, control, and personal agency. Guided self-portraits on medium format film put the story firmly in the hands of its subjects.

Interviews ranged from brief pleasantries to all day excursions exploring drug abuse in rural towns, mistrust of government, love & loss, breaking cycles of violence, and what it means to be American in 2021.
